All children have the capacity to be musical if they are exposed to musical opportunities at an early age.
At Jingle&Jump classes:-
we sing
Knowledge of a wide range of songs benefits language development by increasing vocabulary and an understanding of the structure of language.
Singing has many benefits. It increases vocal stamina and control, encourages the ability to pitch match, it develops concentration and memory,
builds self-esteem and helps the cardio-vascular system to mature.
we do actions
Children are active learners. Actions which are simple and close to the meaning of the words reinforce understanding.
Small actions increase dexterity, fine motor skills and coordination.
we stamp, jump and march
Large, whole body actions help develop the vestibular system, sense of balance, muscle control through stamping, jumping and turning,
promotes body awareness and contributes to physical fitness.
we clap
Clapping improves motor control and increases coordination. It develops a sense of rhythm, practises musical timing and anticipation. Clapping
along to a regular beat requires a very different range of skills as does clapping at a specific point in a song. Clapping songs also promote
confidence as it is an immediate way in which children can participate before any other, and thereby achieve success.
we play instruments
Playing small, hand-held percussion instruments refines motor skills and coordination, fosters self-control and increases self-esteem. Children
experiment with and become familiar with different ways of making sounds, and explore the communicative and expressive potential of dynamics.
we use puppets and toys
The use of puppets and toys develops memory and concentration, nurtures the imagination and creativity, focuses attention, builds anticipation
and increases awareness and understanding of the world.
we count
There is much reinforcement of the sequence of numbers 1 to 5 and back from 5 to 1 through the use of counting songs.
The area of the brain which governs the fingers is also concerned with counting.
Mathematical understanding is also enhanced through spatial and positional concepts presented in songs where actions or toys are in front, behind,
above, below, to the side left and right.
we learn about music
Learning about steady beat and other musical concepts such as dynamics-loud/soft, tempo-fast/slow, pitch- high/low as well as the importance of
pattern, begins an understanding of the range and variety of sounds incorporated in music, and encourages children to make decisions about musical preferences.
we all join in
Attending a Jingle&Jump class regularly teaches children to take turns, participate simultaneously, listen to others, plan their own actions and respond
to cues from others. They learn about self-control and social interaction which prepares them for the behavioural expectations of Nursery. They
contribute towards a shared aim within the group which develops their sense of security and confidence. It is also an opportunity for a different
kind of bonding with their accompanying adult which will strengthen relationships and build trust.
we have fun
Enjoyment can enhance learning. It is worth coming just for this.
