Nursery
Jingle&Jump music classes have been running successfully for several years in a number of private nurseries in and around Edinburgh and West Lothian.
Music sessions in Nursery help to prepare children for the more formal setting of school, and teach them to manage their behaviour in group situations.

There are many aspects of child development, which are enhanced by musical experiences, particularly the areas of personal, social and emotional development, communication and language, mathematical, physical, creative and increases knowledge and understanding of the world.
The Jingle&Jump programme has been devised to meet the needs of children in a nursery setting whilst addressing the requirements of the Early Years curriculum and A Curriculum for Excellence.
The aim of the programme is to support and encourage musical involvement.
The programme includes a range of original songs and games which have been devised for and successfully used with Nursery children, as well as some familiar and traditional children's songs. Repetition and familiarity are important features of any activity for young children.

It is important that children are able to participate at some level at the earliest opportunity, which is why most of the songs have actions. Action songs form a very important part of the Jingle&Jump sessions. Children are active learners and music and movement together helps to make connections between both hemispheres of the brain.
The main musical concepts which are introduced through Jingle&Jump classes are:-
- Understanding of a steady beat
- Musical contrast, loud/soft, quick/slow
- Responding to visual and aural signals, and taking turns
- Vocal pitch matching
- Instrumental playing skills
Each session includes a number of clapping songs involving large motor skills and some with smaller actions developing dexterity and fine motor skills. There are some regular features, which encourage anticipation and prediction and the opportunity to play a range of small hand-held percussion instruments. The sessions are centred around a theme, which could be seasonal or otherwise appropriate for the interests and experiences of the children. The lively and enjoyable weekly sessions are further enhanced by the use of puppets and soft toys.

The Jingle&Jump programme has been devised and is taught by a qualified and experienced primary school music teacher and is delivered with enthusiasm and positive encouragement.
Nurseries are required to provide a suitable space for the classes and accompanying adult(s) who are happy to participate and encourage the children during the sessions.
Private nurseries are offering an increasing range of extra curricular classes from independent providers and music is always a popular choice with the pupils and their parents.
